It is one of the most attractive castles in Croatia; is located in Varaždin County, 12 km northeast of Krapina.
The castle was built in the 13th century as a smaller castle in the system of fortifications of the Principality of Zagorje.
Next to the castle you can see Lake Trakošćan, which is an artificial lake.
